The Joseph Rowntree Foundation published their annual report on ‘Monitoring Poverty and Social Exclusion‘ in December 2016.

The Department of Health published their third progress report of the suicide prevention strategy in England in January 2017. This report noted that addressing suicide and its prevention is a key part of Government’s ambition to tackle the inequalities caused by poor mental health.
The Mental Health Taskforce produced The Five Year Forward View for Mental Health in February 2016, making 58 recommendations to achieve parity of esteem between mental and physical health. The Government responded in January 2017.
The Government published a green paper, ‘Improving Lives’, on work, disability and health in October 2016. The Government also launched an open consultation seeking views on what it will take to transform employment prospects for disabled people and people with long-term health conditions. The consultation is open until 17 February 2017.

Leonard Cheshire Disability published a report, ‘The State of Social Care in Great Britain 2016’, in November 2016. The report looks at the state of social care in Britain today and how a crisis in social care is impacting on the lives of disabled people across the country.

The United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities published its report on the UK in November 2016. The report states that “the Committee considers that there is reliable evidence that the threshold of grave or systematic violations of the rights of persons with disabilities has been met”.
The Department of Health launched a listening programme to work with people with dementia and their carers in November 2016. The programme will include different ways of gathering people’s views and experiences, both in person and online.
The National Autistic Society published a report on the autism employment gap in November 2016, as part of their ‘Too Much Information’ campaign.

Age UK published its report on Attendance Allowance, The Choice Is Mine, in October 2016. This latest research confirms findings from previous Age UK surveys, and shows that Attendance Allowance makes a big practical difference to the older disabled people who receive it.
