Equality and Human Rights Commission briefing paper: Following Grenfell – The Right to Adequate and Safe Housing

The fact that people with limited mobility were living high up in Grenfell Tower and faced greater difficulties escaping the fire raises important questions about discrimination against certain groups and accessibility standards.

Cabinet Office consultation outcome: Access to Elections – Call for Evidence

The Cabinet have released their response to the Call for Evidence : Access to Elections, in August 2018.

The response includes actions to be taken forward, produced in partnership with the Government-chaired Accessibility of Elections Working Group which includes representatives from organisations acting on behalf of disabled people and from bodies which oversee and conduct elections and referendums.

We feel Government action is needed to change attitudes towards disability. The inter-ministerial disability strategy group should have a clearly defined objective to improve attitudes towards disabled people.

Department of Health and Social Care policy paper: Think Autism Strategy – Governance Refresh 2018

The Autism Act (2009) places a duty on the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care to publish a strategy for meeting the needs of autistic adults in England, and to review it from time to time.

In August 2018, the Think Autism Strategy (pdf) itself has not changed, but the implementation activities required to deliver its intended outcomes, and who will do what, have been clarified.
