Office for Disability Issues policy paper: Disabled People’s Rights – Information for the UK’s First Periodic Review

The UN asked for more information on how the UK is implementing the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRDP) in April 2017.

The UK Government responded in July 2017.

This response is ahead of formal concluding observations in Geneva in August 2017. The Government maintains its position on a 2016 inquiry, saying:

‘The constructive dialogue throughout this examination will further showcase UKG’s commitment to progressing the rights and lived experience of disabled people.’

Background

The Government published its initial report on the rights of disabled people in November 2011.

The UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities launched an inquiry into the UK, with a report published in November 2016. The UK Government dismissed its recommendations.

The UK Independent Mechanism (UKIM) published a report on the rights of disabled people under the CRPD in February 2017.
