The report provides an in-depth analysis of the conceptual background of the ground of racial or ethnic origin as well as its practical interpretation by international as well as national courts.
The Runnymede Trust and the University of Manchester’s Centre on Dynamics of Ethnicity published briefings on ethnic inequalities in Bristol, in Manchester, and in Barking & Dagenham in January 2017.
The Equinet Working Group on Equality Law published ‘Fighting discrimination on the ground of race and ethnic origin’ in February 2017.
The Restorative Justice Council published a report on restorative justice and BAME children in the youth justice system in February 2017.
The Fawcett Society published a briefing on the gender pay gap by ethnicity in Britain in March 2017. The analysis revealed real inequalities, with some minority ethnic groups making strides while pay for others lags behind.
An independent review by Baroness McGregor-Smith on issues affecting black and minority ethnic groups in the workplace was published in February 2017. The Government response was published alongside the review.
Responses to a consultation on proposals to further extend charging for overseas visitors and migrants who use the NHS; including the Royal College of Nursing, the TUC, and the Race Equality Foundation. The Government responded in February 2017.
The Traveller Movement published a report on Gypsy, Traveller and Roma children in the youth justice system in December 2016. The report found that Gypsy, Traveller and Roma children report greater levels of need and worse experiences in custody than other children.
The Trades Union Congress launched a survey into Racism at Work in January 2017. The TUC is asking non-unionised as well as unionised workers to complete the survey.
The Social Mobility Commission published a report on ethnicity, gender and social mobility in December 2016. The report provided an analysis of the effect gender, ethnicity and socio-economic status have on life chances in the education system and labour market.
