Women and Equalities Select Committee

The Women and Equalities Committee was appointed by the House of Commons on 3 June 2015 to examine the expenditure, administration and policy of the Government Equalities Office (GEO).

Maria Miller was elected as chair of the Committee on 17 June.

In a letter in the Guardian on 26 May 2015 NGO leaders, including Marie Staunton from the Equality and Diversity Forum, called for ‘a new women and equalities select committee created so that our new MPs have a place where they can prioritise the assessment of whether government and others are doing their best to ensure equality for all’.
