The United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities published its report on the UK in November 2016. The report states that “the Committee considers that there is reliable evidence that the threshold of grave or systematic violations of the rights of persons with disabilities has been met”.
The Women and Equalities Select Committee launched an inquiry into the Government’s plans for achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goal 5 (#SDG5) in October 2016. Submissions should be submitted by Monday 5 December 2016. Earlier submissions will be welcomed.

The Joint Committee on Human Rights launched an inquiry into the UK’s record on children’s rights. The inquiry follows the UK assessment of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, and will consider both the recommendations made by the Committee, as well as considering any implications for children’s rights of the Children and Social Work Bill. The deadline for submitting was 7 October 2016.
In August 2016, the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) published its concluding observations on the UK’s twenty-first to twenty-third periodic reports.
The Environmental Audit Committee opened an inquiry into the domestic implication of the UK sustainable development goals in 2016. The deadline for making a submission was 16 September 2016.
In July 2016, the EHRC published ‘Race rights in the UK. Submission to the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination in advance of the public examination of the UK’s implementation of ICERD’.
The UK will be examined by the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination in August 2016. A number of NGOs have worked together under the Runnymede Trust’s leadership, to produce a shadow report.
The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child (UN CRC) reviewed the UK’s implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) in May 2016 and published their report. UN CRC raised concerns and made recommendations on a number of children’s rights issues.
In 2016, the Equality and Human Rights Commission and the Women’s Resource Centre published CEDAW shadow reports on access to justice and legal aid.
