Law commission report: Hate crime laws

The Law commission has published its final report on Hate crime laws (pdf).

In 2020, the Law commission held a consultation on Hate crime laws, which  received nearly 2500 responses. These responses have informed the recommendations made within the final report.

In  this final report the Law commission have made a number of recommendations for reform of hate crime laws. These include:

  • Levelling up the protection for disability and LGBT+ victims
  • Tackling sex and gender abuse
  • Protecting freedom of expression
