House of Commons Library briefing: Gypsies and Travellers

The House of Commons Library has published an overview, dated May 2019, of the key issues and policies relating to Gypsy and Traveller communities in England.

The briefing focuses primarily on issues relating to Gypsies and Travellers in England, as the devolved administrations have their own policies in areas where responsibility is devolved.

The briefing looks at inequalities experienced by Gypsy and Traveller communities, racial discrimination and hate crime, planning and accommodation needs, unauthorised encampments and developments, health and education needs, employment and training, welfare reform and evidence of over-representation in the criminal justice system.
