‘Global and regional estimates of violence against women: prevalence and health effects of intimate partner violence and non-partner sexual violence’ by the World Health Organization, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the South African Medical Research Council was published in June 2013.
The report presents the first global systematic review and synthesis of the body of scientific data on the prevalence of two forms of violence against women — violence by an intimate partner (intimate partner violence) and sexual violence by someone other than a partner (nonpartner sexual violence).
The report’s findings include that ‘overall, 35% of women worldwide have experienced either physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence’.
