Justice Committee inquiry on courts and tribunals fees and charges – oral evidence session

9 December 2016

The House of Commons Justice Committee published its report on courts and tribunals fees in June 2016; the Government then responded in November 2016. The Committee has arranged to take oral evidence from Sir Oliver Heald QC MP, Minister of State for Courts and Justice, in a one-off evidence session on Wednesday 14 December at 4.00pm, to discuss the Government Response.

The Bach Commission on access to justice: EDF response and interim report

The Fabian Society is providing the secretariat to Lord Willy Bach’s Commission on Access to Justice, which will explore establishing access to justice as a fundamental public entitlement. The deadline for submissions passed in May 2016. In November 2016 the Commission published an interim report, ‘The crisis in the justice system in England & Wales’.

Women and Equalities Committee inquiry on ensuring strong equalities legislation after EU exit

The Women and Equalities Select Committee launched an inquiry into ensuring strong equalities legislation following EU exit in October 2016. The deadline for submissions was Wednesday 9 November 2016. The Equality and Diversity Forum made a written submission. Other submissions can be seen on the Committee website.

Lammy Review of BAME representation in the Criminal Justice System – emerging findings published

The Lammy Review into BAME representation in the criminal justice system has launched its call for evidence. The review will look at the way the CJS deals with young people and adults from BAME backgrounds. The review published an interim report in November 2016.

Government work, disability and health green paper and consultation

23 November 2016

The Government published a green paper, ‘Improving Lives’, on work, disability and health in October 2016. The Government also launched an open consultation seeking views on what it will take to transform employment prospects for disabled people and people with long-term health conditions. The consultation is open until 17 February 2017.

IPPR Commission on Economic Justice

23 November 2016

The Institute for Public Policy Research launched a Commission on Economic Justice in November 2016. The Commission will last for two years, publishing its final report in autumn 2018.

EHRC tendering opportunity on prejudice and unlawful behaviour

23 November 2016

The Equality and Human Rights Commission is tendering for a supplier(s) to evaluate promising approaches designed to tackle prejudice, discrimination, identity-based harassment or violence. They are also tendering for a supplier(s) to develop guidance and training so that organisations can assess the impact of their work on these issues.

Women and Equalities Committee inquiry into UN Sustainable Development Goal 5

11 November 2016

The Women and Equalities Select Committee launched an inquiry into the Government’s plans for achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goal 5 (#SDG5) in October 2016. Submissions should be submitted by Monday 5 December 2016. Earlier submissions will be welcomed.
