The Women and Equalities Committee’s inquiry into the accessibility of our homes, buildings and public spaces made a call for written submissions. The deadline was 12 October 2016.
Disability Rights UK are consulting on on what the disability rights sector should be seeking from a post-Brexit UK. Submissions should be made by 5 May 2017.
Lord Bracadale has been appointed by the Scottish Ministers to undertake an independent review of hate crime legislation in Scotland.
On 4 May 2017 the UK’s human rights record will be examined by the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva. The UK’s overall human rights record was last reviewed by the UN Human Rights Council in 2012, which resulted in 132 recommendations for improvement.
The Women and Equalities Committee and the Petitions Committee of the House of Commons published a joint report on high heels and workplace dress codes in January 2017.
The Women and Equalities Committee launched an inquiry into older people and employment in March 2017. The inquiry considers Government policies to help people extend their working lives, and further steps to tackle issues such as age discrimination.
The Children’s Commissioner for England submitted evidence to the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in February 2017. This included recommendations to inform the Committee’s examination of the UK Government.
The EHRC launched an inquiry into housing for disabled people in December 2016, and called for evidence in February 2017. Submissions from disabled people and relevant organisations should be made by 18 April 2017.
The Women and Equalities Select Committee published a report on ensuring strong equalities legislation after Brexit in February 2017, after an earlier inquiry. Our Chief Executive, Ali Harris, said “We welcome the four positive recommendations made by the committee which seek to embed equality into the UK legislative and policy framework, specifically aided by civil society organisations.”
The Women and Equalities Select Committee has called for evidence on responses made by the Government to three recommendations made in the Committee’s March 2016 report. Evidence should reach the Committee by 12 April 2017.
