JRF research: Caring and earning among low-income Caribbean, Pakistani and Somali people

In May 2014 the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) Poverty and Ethnicity programme published Caring and earning among low-income Caribbean, Pakistani and Somali people.

The research looks at the challenges faced by some ethnic minority groups in balancing work and caring responsibilities. It argues that employers, care providers and the government need to take much greater steps to help families across all ethnicities who are struggling to balance caring and earning.

The Poverty and Ethnicity programme was launched in 2011 and has included research on the effects of social networks, workplace cultures, a review of the evidence on specific issues facing Northern Ireland and an exploration of the experiences of different ethnic groups in Wales.
