Institute of Race Relations: The London clearances, race, housing and policing

This report explores the linkages between developments in urban policing in Britain following outbreaks of civil disorder and a range of social policies, notably around housing.

Author Jessica Perera demonstrates how under policies developed since the financial crisis 0f 2008 and the urban riots of 2011, a dangerous symbiosis has been formed between housing policies directed towards ‘regeneration’ of the capital’s council estates and new forms of policing.
