Institute for Government report: How to Fix the Funding of Health and Social Care

The Government’s NHS funding announcement is significant but isn’t enough.

This is according to the June 2018 report by Institute for Government on funding health and social care.

The report argues that although the Government has announced a 3.4% funding increase, an annual increase of 4% is needed to improve the NHS and maintain social care standards.

It also argues that the Government must answer the questions of how additional funds should be raised and provided consistently over time, otherwise the investment will be unsustainable.

The report states that an inquiry is the best way to address the funding question, and an independent body with strong leadership could ensure funding increases are provided.
