Government consultation response: ‘Tackling illegal migration in privately rented accommodation’

On 10 October 2013, the Government published Tackling illegal immigration in privately rented accommodation – the government’s response to the consultation.

The Government’s consultation on ‘Tackling illegal migration in privately rented accommodation’ was launched in July 2013. It invited views on proposals to create a new requirement on landlords to conduct immigration checks on tenants, with penalties for those who provide rented accommodation to illegal non-EEA migrants in breach of the new requirements.

Migrants’ Rights Network published a briefing on the proposals in July 2013.

The consultation closed on 21 August 2013.
