Black South West Network report: Impact of COVID-19 on BAME-Led businesses, organisations and Communities

Out of 33 organisations surveyed, 42% have no paid staff and fully rely on volunteers to deliver their activities and services, whereas only one, or 3%, does not rely volunteers at all.

This is according to the Black South West Network report in May 2020. This report presents findings of a review of the BAME-led voluntary and community sector in Bristol.

The report finds:

  • 90% amongst all business owners who responded to the survey indicated that they have already lost a significant amount of income.
  • Almost half of the business sample is unable to deliver products
  • 92% of voluntary and community organisations have responded to the survey that they expect the community needs they serve to increase due to COVID-19
  • 64% of social enterprises are also unable to deliver products and/or services to their recipients.
