As the fallout from the EU Referendum continues, Women’s Aid Northern Ireland have expressed concern about the impact of Brexit on women.
The July 2016 article identifies key three areas for concern:
- An increased reporting of racism and discrimination against women since the result
- The potential loss of EU equality and legal frameworks that protect female workers and survivors of violence
- The risk to women’s services that have relied on EU funding since the Government’s austerity programme
‘As an organisation we stand in solidarity with the women’s movement in the UK, Europe, and across the world. Calling for a strong, clear commitment to women’s rights in all future Brexit negotiations. Now more than ever, there must be no rollback on women’s rights.’
