UK response to the Universal Periodic Review recommendations

On 24 May 2012, the UK was examined on its human rights record by the United Nations Human Rights Council as part of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR). The UK’s formal response to the UPR recommendations was published in September 2012.

The response is divided into two parts:

  • The ‘Addendum’ which is the word limited formal response to the Working Group Report. It provides an explanation of the methodology and approach to the UK’s response and groups the recommendations under a broad set of themes, mirroring the UK’s national report. It will form part of the UK’s official UPR documentation.
  • The ‘Annex’ document sets out each recommendation in numerical order (as they appear in the Working Group Report) alongside an explanation of the UK’s current position in this area (and where appropriate, input from the Devolved Administrations). This document will not form part of the official documentation (so will not be translated into all 6 UN languages) but it will be uploaded onto the OHCHR website.
