Continued lack of action from the UK Government on the UN Committee’s recommendations undermines its position as a global leader on disability rights.
This is one of the concerns expressed by the UK Independent Mechanism (UKIM) in their June 2018 briefing on the Government’s response to the UN Convention on the Rights of Disabled People.
The briefing states that extensive evidence shows a regression on disabled people’s rights and a strong correlation between poverty and disability in the UK.
However, the Government has not made any commitment to implementing the UN Committee’s recommendations on disability rights. UKIM urges the Government to take these forward.
