On 4 June 2007, the Equality and Diversity Forum and the End Violence Against Women campaign held a conference to discuss whether violence should be a priority for the Commission for Equality and Human Rights.
The event was Chaired by Sarah Spencer CBE, Chair of the Equality and Diversity Forum. Speakers included: Professor Liz Kelly, EVAW Chair, presenting ‘From the Outset: Why Violence should be a priority for the Commission for Equality and Human Rights’; Karon Monaghan of Matrix Chambers on how anti-discrimination law can address violence; Katie Ghose of the British Institute of Human Rights on how human rights can provide an underpinning framework for dealing with violence; and Shehla Husain of the Crown Prosecution Service on its work addressing violence as an intersectional issue.
