Lords Select Committee on the Long-term Sustainability of the NHS report and Government response – Adult Social Care

The Lords Select Committee on the Long-term Sustainability of the NHS published a report on adult social care (pdf) in April 2017.

The Government responded (pdf) in February 2018.

The report identifies a culture of short-termism within the NHS and successive Governments, and proposes an Office for Health and Care Sustainability to address the issue.

“Our conclusion could not be clearer. Is the NHS and adult social care system sustainable? Yes, it is. Is it sustainable as it is today? No, it is not. Things need to change.”

The Government’s response noted that “significant efficiencies will be needed to make the NHS and social care system sustainable for the long term.”
