In September 2016 Race on the Agenda published a report ‘Equality and Inclusion in the Academies Programme’ which includes a literature review and analysis of written submissions to the Education Committee Inquiry on Multi-Academy Trusts.
The report argues that closing the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and others has not been effectively addressed by some of the largest Multi-Academy Trusts in England. Furthermore, the assessment processes carried out by MATs appear to disproportionately exclude BAME pupils and fail to adequately support excluded pupils.
