Government proposal for university ‘transparency duty’

On 31 January 2016, the Prime Minister announced plans to require universities to publish statistical data on admissions by gender, class and ethnic background.

Under the proposal, all universities will have a new ‘transparency duty’, part of a drive to highlight those institutions failing to improve access.

The Prime Minister wrote an article for the Sunday Times on 31 January in which  he explained the government’s plans to achieve real equality in Britain.

A petition started by Dr Nicola Rollock, University of Birmingham, calls on the Prime Minister ‘to establish a comprehensive, independent review of the retention and senior level representation of Black and minority ethnic groups across all employment sectors within the UK’.
