The Office for National Statistics published a report on persistent poverty in June 2016. According to the report 3.9 million people (or 6.5% of the population) in the UK are in ‘persistent poverty’. The persistent poverty rate for women was 1.5 percentage points higher than for men in 2014 in the UK.
