Ipsos MORI & Shelter report: The Living Home Standard in Scotland

One in three people in Scotland live in homes that do not meet the Living Home Standard.

This is according to an August 2018 report by Ipsos MORI on behalf of Shelter Scotland on the Living Home Standard in Scotland.

It shows that among the groups most likely to fall short of the Standard are families with children (43%) and young people aged 25-34 (48%).

It also finds that:

  • Renters are also more likely than owners to fall short of the Standard.
  • 1 in 8 homeowners in Scotland do not meet the Standard.
  • 18% of the Scottish public live in homes which do not meet the criteria to pass the affordability dimension.
  • 1 in 5 (17%) of people in Scotland say they cannot make these payments whilst also saving money for unexpected costs.
  • 18% of the Scottish public also live in homes that do not meet the criteria for decent conditions.
  • However, only 3% of the Scottish public live in homes that do not meet criteria relating to their neighbourhood and the social networks, services and security it affords.
