The House of Commons Library has published an August 2018 briefing paper on social care, in relation to the forthcoming Green Paper on older people and parallel programme.
The forthcoming Green Paper on social care for older people has been delayed from summer 2017 to autumn 2018.
Although the Green Paper is yet to come, the government has said that the proposals in the Green Paper will:
- Ensure the long-term sustainability of social care,
- Introduce a lifetime absolute limit on what people pay for social care.
- Address integration with health and other services, carers, workforce and technological developments.
Also, in March 2017 Jeremy Hunt announced 7 principles that will guide their thinking ahead of the Green Paper.
The briefing paper includes the commentary on the Green Paper so far, such as:
- Independent Age’s “7 tests” for the Green Paper in January 2018
- Health Foundation and King’s Fund report in May 2018
- Housing, Communities and Local Government, and the Health and
Social Care select committees joint report, “Long-term funding of adult social care” in June 2018 - The The Local Government Association (LGA) launched their version of a green paper for social care entitled “The lives we want to lead” in July 2018.
