On 10 May 2016, BIS launched a call for evidence as part of the review into increasing progression in the labour market by people from black and minority ethnic (BME) backgrounds. The aim of the call for evidence is to establish the obstacles faced by people from BME communities in the labour market. The call for evidence will close on 22 August 2016. The government has appointed Baroness McGregor-Smith to lead the review, which is part of the government’s 2020 agenda. The findings from the review will be published later this year. The review will include recommendations to government and businesses on how BME talent can be fully utilised as well as highlighting best practice.
Background
On 5 February 2016, the Business Secretary Sajid Javid announced a review into increasing progression in the labour market by people from minority backgrounds.
The review will be led by Baroness McGregor-Smith. It will consider the obstacles faced and the impacts these have on the individuals and the businesses themselves. It will also look at the evidence base and consider those interventions that have worked well and what more can be done.
The Equality and Human Rights Commission welcomed the announcement.
