The Government response to the recommendations of the justice committee in relation to civil legal aid was published on 14 July 2015. It states:
we do not accept the Committee’s assessment that we have largely failed to achieve our wider objectives for reform beyond achieving savings. By the very nature of the changes to the scope of civil legal aid, unnecessary and adversarial litigation at public expense has been reduced by excluding those matters identified as a lower priority.
The Justice Committee’s Eighth report on the Impact of changes to civil legal aid under Part 1 of the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012 was published in March 2015.
