European Women’s Lobby report: Brexit and Women’s Rights

The European Women’s Lobby (EWL) published a December 2016 report on Brexit and women’s rights (pdf). The report explores the question ‘how do we work internationally to secure and advance women’s rights in the post referendum world?’

Following Brexit, the EWL secretariat met with British members to discuss next steps. This meeting aimed to build a shared understanding amongst women’s organisations, and to explore how Brexit has altered the landscape for women’s rights and organisations working for women and girls in the UK.

Four key issues were identified to take forward:

  1. Migration and free movement
  2. Work and economic empowerment
  3. Violence against women and girls
  4. Representation at the negotiation table.
