In June 2012, the Equality and Diversity Forum held a seminar about the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s Section 31 Assessment of HM Treasury.
As a regulator the Commission has the power to conduct a Section 31 Assessment that enables it to gain access to relevant information and documentation in order to make a full assessment of public bodies compliance with the Public Sector Equality Duty. In November 2010 the Commission announced it would conduct a formal Section 31 Assessment of the Treasury in order to assess the extent to which the Treasury met its obligations when considering the impact of the decisions contained in the Spending Review on protected characteristics.
