Detention Forum briefing – Immigration Detention in the United Kingdom

It is time to implement radical and fundamental change to create a fair and humane migration governance system, says a September 2017 briefing (doc) from the Detention Forum.

The briefing notes that nearly 28,000 migrants are still entering detention every year – and the number of people in detention in any given time remains unchanged.

Legislative changes brought in by the Immigration Act 2016, alongside new Home Office policies introduced following the APPG inquiry (pdf) and the Shaw review, have failed to meaningfully reduce these figures.
