Compassion in Politics report: Assessment of government Equality Impact Assessments, 2010-2021

New research from Compassion in Politics finds that 1 in 3 government policies announced between 2010 and 2021 were predicted to have a negative impact on at least one equality group.

Equality Impact Assessments are carried out to ensure a particular policy, project or scheme does not unlawfully discriminate against any protected characteristic (e.g. LGBT+ people, disabled people, ethnic minority communities).

This report analysed 175 Equality Impact Assessments published from 2010 to 2021 and found 21% anticipated a negative impact on ethnicity, 22% on gender, 22% on age, 25% on disability and 4% on sexuality.
