Published in April 2017, the aim of the Work and Pensions Committee’s report on victims of modern slavery (pdf), is to begin with the Government, the development of stage two of their country’s counter-slavery policy that builds on the 2015 legislative framework.

On 4 May 2017 the UK’s human rights record will be examined by the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva. The UK’s overall human rights record was last reviewed by the UN Human Rights Council in 2012, which resulted in 132 recommendations for improvement.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission launched a consultation into its measurement framework in January 2017. Written responses are welcomed with a closing date of 21 February 2017.
The Joint Committee on Human Rights launched an inquiry on the Government’s proposed derogation from the ECHR in December 2016. Written submissions are invited from interested groups and individuals. The deadline for submissions is Friday 31 March 2017.
The House of Commons Justice Committee published its report on courts and tribunals fees in June 2016; the Government then responded in November 2016. The Committee has arranged to take oral evidence from Sir Oliver Heald QC MP, Minister of State for Courts and Justice, in a one-off evidence session on Wednesday 14 December at 4.00pm, to discuss the Government Response.
The Women and Equalities Select Committee launched an inquiry into the Government’s plans for achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goal 5 (#SDG5) in October 2016. Submissions should be submitted by Monday 5 December 2016. Earlier submissions will be welcomed.
The Joint Committee on Human Rights has launched an inquiry into the human rights implication of Brexit. The committee is focusing on three particular issues: privacy and family life; international trade; and other human rights protected by EU law. The deadline for submissions passed on 10 October 2016.
